Indian Wedding FAQs
What do I have to do during the wedding?
For Mehendi: Everyone, especially Addie, is welcome to get henna tattoo.
For Haldi: Everyone is welcome to apply turmeric paste on Connor and Sushma.
For Sangeeth: Come dance and sing with us. But if you want to show off your talents with a prepared performance, you are welcome to do so.
For Yeduru Kansani: As the eldest sister of the groom, Addie has the first right to hold the symbolic mirror while the bride’s family welcomes them.
For Kashi Yathra: As the sister of the groom, Addie will help his brother get ready for his trip to Kashi by applying Kajal (eyeliner) on his eyes.
For Baglari Bosche: The sister of the groom, Addie (and Emma, virtually) will demand for gifts.
On Wedding Day: The father of the groom, Theo, will be asked to sit next to Connor in certain occasions. Somebody will direct where and when Theo will have to be.
On Wedding Day: The bride’s family will try to steal Connor’s wedding shoes for cash. Connor’s family will have to defend it from them.
What do I wear for the entire wedding celebration?
I would categorize Indian traditional wear in following three tiers:
Men:
Less formal - Kurta, American formal shirts and trousers
Formal - More elaborate Kurta (i.e, with an overcoat, or elaborate designs)
Very formal - Sherwani (Mostly for the groom, the head gear is optional)
Women:
Less formal - Kurti (there are million variations of this)
Formal - Lehenga
Very formal - Saree
The general rule of thumb is Formal/Very formal for wedding day and Less formal/Formal for the pre-wedding days.
Here is a link to a cloth store in Bangalore that my family recommends - Pothys. Feel free to explore. We will have lot more options once you are in India.
Will Connor sit on an elephant/horse for the wedding?
No.
Is it a big fat Indian wedding?
It is most definitely NOT a big fat Indian wedding. My family and I have never been into big weddings, but we do like following traditions. We will have a moderate size wedding (with 150-200 people).
Can I attend the celebration virtually?
Yes! The wedding day will be live-streamed. Sign-up to get livestream information close to the wedding.
Is there a gift registry?
No. We are not expecting gifts. We just want pleasure of your company.
What can I expect to eat during the wedding?
There is going to be a platter of vegetarian konkani food during the week of the wedding. On the wedding day, the food will be served in plantain leaves.
Can I use spoon to eat?
Yes :)

Sathish (Father), Chandrika (Mother), Sachin (Brother), Sushma (Me!)
